Recipe ideas?
Mar. 14th, 2014 04:54 pmI feel the need to cook something complicated. It's been one of those days. The two possible things I've got sat in my fridge are sausages (cumberland chiploatas, to be precise) or breaded cod.
Neither of these things require much by way of cooking, to my personal dismay.
So, under the cut are a list of other things I have kicking around the house, fridge or freezer*. If someone can suggest me something doable with them that will result in a dish that is reasonably cogent and at least reasonably heavy in terms of prep and cooking time, I will give you a hug. Fellow foodie types, consider yourselves challenged.
Baking potatoes
Charlotte potatoes
Dried fusili
Long grain rice
Dried butterbeans
More goat's cheese than is healthy.
More Oakwood smoked cheddar than is healthy.
EDIT: And Boursain. Because apparently I collect cheese.
Butter. I will not comment on the quality or health thereof.
Milk.
Aubergines
A medium sized courgette.
Enough tenderstem broccoli to feed me for a month, because apparently I'm determined to prove it's possible to have an unhealty relationship with a vegetable as innocuous as broccoli.
One rather wilted leek that was destined for soup originally but then I lost the impetus, but is still edible if I speak to it harshly.
Spinach. Almost a full bag of it. Really needs to be used tonight, actually, but it's spinach, so if all else fails, I will end up sauteing it off and then chowing down on it at about midnight with nothing else along side it, because if the dodgy relationship with broccoli fails, spinach will be my rebound fling.
Frozen peas.
Enough home made stock that we ran out of ice trays.
Most dried herbs known to man.
Most dried spices known to man, with the exception of saffron, because we've done the dodgy relationship thing, then I accused her of being a gold digger (Firefly fans, please laugh with me at this line), and then had a very traumatic break up. Also, there is no point using saffron in anything that isn't paella, in my book.
A cylinder of 99% cocoa cooking chocolate. Approximately the right size, shape and weight for using to knock out a prison guard were you attempting a daring escape from jail, if thrown from the right angle.
Self raising flour.
Baking powder.
Stale bread that could be wizzed up very easily for breadcrumbs.
All the garlic ever.
Lime juice.
Something that used to contain lemon juice and might be able to still produce a few drops if I shake it very hard but mostly I drank it already.
Soy and oyster sauce, white wine and balsamic vinegar, various types of alcohol, various types of cooking oil, and dressing oils.
Capers. Which I've used once because it looked cool, and have not been opened since.
Also, don't worry about kitchenware being an obstacle to any suggestions. Just...don't.
Anybody got any bright ideas?
* - I am also planning on going for a jog. My route will take me past Tesco, so I can pick up maybe one or two small items that would fit in a ruck sack and be carried back without impeding me, but only 1 or 2. And I'm not going to lie, depending how the next... *squints at clock* 1 hour and 7 minutes go, one of those slots might be irrevokably booked by a large chocolate bar.

Date: 2014-03-14 05:55 pm (UTC)If you're picking anything small up, go for canned whole tomatoes (the whole ones have to be better before canning as they can't just chop the manky bits off) and/or tomato puree.
