I'm working today. And tomorrow.

I have long since come to the conclusion that I wouldn't mind working weekends if SOMETHING happened on them. As it is, I've been in a little over 4 hours now, and I've recieved one phonecall inbound (which wasn't a fault, it was a reseller calling to whine about how we couldn't regrade his ADSL line until it finishes stabilising from its last regrade) and rung up Tiscali to bitch about them for not sending through information when they said they would.

The total amount of time these two tasks took me was 45 mins. At the most.

Argh. I have a sleeping bag in my car. Damn the fact I'm not here alone, or I would so be having a kip on the floor right about now.

Some updates:

The boxing yesterday was fun, which surprised me. Boxing..I don't know, I was happy to sit through TV fights as long as I had Doug there to explain the rules. But actually being present at one was a whole different ballgame. I was always sure I'd hate it in person - with the exception of rugby, sport normally bores me and an environment which was essentially like you'd taken misogyny and the patriarchy, concentrated them and then whizzed them in a blender I thought was surely going to make me hugely uncomfortable.

And, to be fair, yes, I disliked the fact they had ring girls - would have preferred them not to. And yes, I disliked the copious amount of drinking that happens at these places and the drunken idiots that end up slurring over your shoulder - could have done without those either. And yes, I really disliked the sexism that lead to the fact that all the matches were between men, and by far the most common insult I heard screamed at an opponent by the crowd was 'pussy' - could definitely have done without that.

But for some inexplicable reason, even with all that present, I still really enjoyed myself. Something to do with the fact that the crowd was so damn reactive, and everyone was wearing enough protection that no one would get seriously hurt, and none of these men were boys who'd been forced into it to prove their machismo but rather it was a one off thing they'd volunteered for, and they were all well off, so they weren't doing it in some desperate attempt to get out of poverty, and there was no booing for anyone other than the ref when he made a dodgy call - everyone liked everyone else, regardless of who you cheered for - there was no feuds or insults beween fighters, there was no chance for it to escalate, it was - and I use this phrase with a very strong sense of irony - good clean fun.

Weird.

It becomes markedly less fun when there is someone you know in the ring whose nose is pouring with blood mind, but, y'know.

And for you three (you know who you are) who missed it the final fight was...oh, it was brilliant. Awesome. Best of the night, in my opinion - certainly, the crowd was the loudest. Technical knockout was what they dubbed it, but frankly, I don't think anyone would have disputed it if they'd just called it a knockout - the guy landed on his arse so many times he ended up resorting to spitting his gum shield out to buy himself time.

So, one of the things that I've done today in an effort to not fall asleep with boredom is track down and watch the first 4 episodes of the rebooted Thundercats anime.

My thoughts - it's certainly started off very strong. So far it's touched on the themes of classism, racism, priviledge, how to healthily deal with grief when you have responsilities to others, and how to combat the ennui of the fact that, against the massiveness that is the cosmos, you aren't actually that important and death is inevitable.

In four episodes.

Episodes three and four were the party looking for something in the traditional journey sense, and my current concern is it's going to turn into 'new place, new enemy this week!' style adventure, which would render it dull beyond all telling regardless of how sophisticated the themes are, but the last minute of episode four brings back a thought-deceased party member, so I'm hoping we're about to return to less linear plot.

Apple juice of today: Belle de Boskoop - heavy, is the first descriptor that comes to mind. In the same way that a very thick honey can get spicy if you have too much of it? That's this apple juice. And I've noticed that if you have a particularly large swig, there can be a bit of a sulphuric aftertaste that comes through that's not dissimilar to garlic. Too strong for light drinking, but would work wonderfully in some spiced apple sauce to go with pork.

Oh, and my advice on the pots of dip they're now selling on the olive stall in the farmer's market for £2 a go? Stay away from the Aioli. That was a disappointment! :(
