Dum-ta-dum.
Mar. 16th, 2012 01:45 pmLooking back over my LJ - handy, handy resource for seeing when my life was headed up and when it went to shit, I've realised that actually, when I stopped worrying about the universe and concentrated more on enjoying what is around me, was generally when interesting stuff started happening.
I guess there's a motto for life - spend too long looking at the big picture and you'll start missing the little details that bring you all the joy.
In terms of my list - I have now tried samphire. It was....interesting, and I don't know if I'd dub it particularly enjoyable. It was at least, edible, but that was probably mostly due to the fact it was smothered in dill and white wine sauce. Probably not going to bother again. Next thing to do: ear piercing. When I have a free minute.
Home this weekend - mother and great uncle's (they are NOT the same person, before the jokes start up :P) birthday, and mother's day. Money is tight this month - very tight. I always forget it will happen this time of year, and every damn time it comes up and smacks me in the mouth. Between all the birthdays, and spring beginning to show itself, which inevitably leads to more time out of the house and spending stuff, money starts flying, especially as in the back of my head, Frugal!Emma goes 'ah, we're past the danger point of Xmas, time for a nap'. This time around, I had my car tyre be discovered to be on the verge of a blow out due to horrifically bad tracking; has all now been corrected but bang goes a large sum.
Next weekend is ear marked for helping to paint Caz and Peter's new place. Dear all: many hands make light work, and I'm sure they won't protest too hard if we go back to their flat afterwards and watch bad films loudly with booze. Come along, you know you want to.
Vampire is wonderful. Have spent enough time on the boards recently that I had to hesitate before I italicized that word, as bb-code has been being used far more recently than HTML. Also been a reminder that RP of any sort tends to follow the rule of 'you get out what you put in' - i.e., there is no frigging point dipping a toe in and then whining when you don't get swept away. Bad Emma, start pulling your weight.
Have decided am going to try BLADEs again. I even have a rough character concept for next year, depending on GMs - she will require definite co-operation from whoever gets the campaign, so whether she comes out or I monster the first few months and then trot out Jenny is something to decide later. In the meantime, need to do the toe-dipping exercise to check shit won't hit the fan on an OOC basis - is there any one out there who would be willing to pop me over a list of LT dates and who has the games that coincide with those weekeneds, so I can work out when I'm going to pop in?
Am determined that we make use of the long weekends this year as a group somehow. Doesn't have to be to Wales, although I might head up for a weekend here and there regardless, as it's, y'know, free, and folk are welcome to join me when I do - it's less fun on your own - but given we have so many long stretches we can do shit without having to eat up holiday, surely we can do something - Westonbirt Arboretum? Or maybe the Lands End-to-John O'Groats adventure on my list? Or maybe we just sodding go for a picnic or something? Last summer passed me by mostly in a haze of exhaustion from my commute and worry over my brother's antics. I refuse to let this year do similarly - any ideas on a post card please.
In more good-news-that-makes-you-happy, Bex has gotten engaged. :D Must work out how the hell I'm going to be anything approaching a supportive bridesmaid when I'm in the south and she's in Leeds. Hrm - care packages maybe?
My own wedding stuff is something I'm trying desperately to stay upbeat about...but please don't ask me about it, I don't have that sort of tolerance. Too much time dwelling on it means I just start getting stressed out and one breakdown in front of the nice ladies in a particular wedding dress boutique in Bath is quite enough, tyvm. Going dress shopping with my mother again this Sat, and my resolution is to smile sweetly and just block my ears whenever she talks about my weight. I will probably fail, but damnit, I'm going to give it my best shot.
Work is work, and there is nothing to report, other than homophobic idiot has been moved to another team and therefore is now making people other than us *headdesk* on a regular basis. That, and he was caught trying to eat an unpeeled avocado like an apple the other day. Fail.
